19世紀以降を主とした「世界の美術」
‘The Art of the World’ Collection featuring works from the post 19ｔｈ　Century

当館の開館が計画されたときから、収集方針に「新潟」「日本」だけでなく「世界」が加わりました。近代日本美術との相互の影響関係から、フランスのバルビゾン派やジャポニスム、ナビ派の美術、またドイツ表現主義の美術を収集しています。デューラーなど近代以前の版画にも名品が揃っています。

The mission of the Niigata Prefectural Museum of Modern Art has been from its very beginning to collect art works not only from Niigata and Japan but also from the world.  The museum collection is a diverse array of pieces including French Ecole de Barbizon, Japonism, and Les Nabis, along with German Expressionist works, which had a great influence on the Japanese art scene. The museum collection also includes outstanding prints by Albrecht Durer and others from the pre-modern period.
